On Tuesday, April 23, 2024 the AR Team celebrated with cake and ice cream, as Luke Macleay graduated from Kalamazoo Valley Community College (KVCC) with his Associate’s Degree. Luke participated in the Early/Middle College program, allowing him to graduate from KVCC one year after completing his senior year in high school. Luke will work full time for AR Engineering this summer and part-time in the fall when he will begin attending Western Michigan University to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering.
2024 Annual MSPS Conference
On February 13-16, 2024, Dustin Thornton attended the 2024 MSPS Annual Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan. There were a variety of available sessions, and all were very helpful and informative including a full day session regarding when to hold or reset a property corner, and one covering the new PA132 Certified Surveys Act. The students from Ferris State University presented their capstone projects and I was able to meet with them individually and discussed internship opportunities over dinner one evening. It was time well spent and a great opportunity to learn and meet with other surveyors from around the state.
2024 Mathcounts Competition - WMU
On February 9, 2024 Spencer O'Dell, as a part of AR Engineering’s affiliation with Michigan Society of Professional Engineers, participated as a judge for the Mathcounts competition hosted at the new student center of Western Michigan University. Mathcounts is a middle school mathematics competition that gives students the opportunity to compete in a live contest against their peers and challenges them in all things math. Winners move on for an opportunity to compete at the state and national level. These 6th-8th graders have some serious skills and would put many to shame with their mental math talent. We are honored to have an opportunity to pour into the future generation of mathematicians, scientists, and of course, engineers! Math rules!
2024 Ice Breaker Fest South Haven
AR Engineering staff participated in the annual Ice Breaker Fest in downtown South Haven in early February. The actual sled race did not take place this year due to lack of snow, but our team built a seriously impressive sled! Our team worked together to design and build the sled using only cardboard, glue and tape. Thanks to Carolyn for coordinating the event, Whitney for her significant contributions for executing the design, and for our fearless driver, Stephanie, who was disappointed to not be able to drive the truck.
2024 WMU Concrete Canoe
AR Engineering was delighted to join other Western Michigan University (WMU) Alumni to support the WMU Concrete Canoe Team at their annual casting day on January 27, 2024. The team had another great year for participation. Several staff from AR Engineering and other alumni worked with students in preparation for casting day and the conference. This was another great opportunity for AR Engineering to give back to WMU. The WMU Concrete Canoe Team is attending the ASCE Eastern Great Lakes Student Conference hosted by the University of Akron on April 4-6, 2024. Go Broncos!
