Jackson County ISD Building - Jackson, Michigan
After receiving a state grant, the Jackson County Intermediate School District was able to save the Frost Elementary School from being demolished. These funds allowed the district to turn a former elementary school into a building that will serve students of all ages and needs. AR Engineering assisted in the site plan that would accommodate a bus route, while ensuring that the natural beauty of the site was retained. In addition, three new playground areas were developed to appropriately serve the needs of the students.
Schoolcraft Community Schools - Schoolcraft, MI
AR Engineering joined the project team to assist with the design of a new elementary building, which will be just under 107,000 sft, house students in pre-school through Grade 6 and include a competitive gym. The project included several design constraints, as the site is adjacent to the existing high school campus. Separate drop-off/pick-up areas were needed, bus zones were required to be separate from the parent drop-off/pick-up areas, and each building needed to have their own parking lot. One specific request of the district was for the elementary parent drop-off/pick-off area to be large. Designing the large, pressure dosed, on-site septic system was a key task for the AR Engineering team and required extensive coordination with EGLE and the Kalamazoo County Health Department. The new elementary building is currently under construction and the district plans to begin using it for students in the Fall of 2023.
Onsted Community Schools - Onsted, Michigan
AR Engineering was asked to assist with district upgrades to address student drop-off/pick-up safety concerns, as well as storm water and parking lot issues. The team at AR Engineering worked closely with district staff and architects, to design solutions addressing the needs of Onsted Community Schools, while staying within the allocated budget. Site improvements included a new parking lot at the elementary school, new drop-off/pick-up configuration at the middle school and drainage upgrades at the high school.
AR Engineering was brought on board to assist with site safety improvements for the school campus. The project involved meeting with the school district and design team to determine the best approach to provide a safer drop off option for both elementary and high school students. A new loop drop off, with visitor parking, was created to keep the student drop off area completely separate from the main parking lot.
