2024 Ice Breaker Fest South Haven

AR Engineering staff participated in the annual Ice Breaker Fest in downtown South Haven in early February. The actual sled race did not take place this year due to lack of snow, but our team built a seriously impressive sled! Our team worked together to design and build the sled using only cardboard, glue and tape.  Thanks to Carolyn for coordinating the event, Whitney for her significant contributions for executing the design, and for our fearless driver, Stephanie, who was disappointed to not be able to drive the truck.

2024 WMU Concrete Canoe

AR Engineering was delighted to join other Western Michigan University (WMU) Alumni to support the WMU Concrete Canoe Team at their annual casting day on January 27, 2024.  The team had another great year for participation.  Several staff from AR Engineering and other alumni worked with students in preparation for casting day and the conference. This was another great opportunity for AR Engineering to give back to WMU.  The WMU Concrete Canoe Team is attending the ASCE Eastern Great Lakes Student Conference hosted by the University of Akron on April 4-6, 2024.  Go Broncos!

WMU Roundtable - ASCE SW Michigan Branch

AR Engineering participated in the American Society of Civil Engineers SW Michigan Branch yearly roundtable event at Western Michigan University. AR Engineering joined other companies from the area to speak to the civil and construction engineering students one-on-one about our fields and answer questions. Thank you to all the professionals that attended and to the students who dropped by to benefit from the conversation while enjoying some pizza and pop.

AR Employees Attend Michigan Wastewater Conference

On January 9-10, 2024, two of our engineers, Emily and Spencer, attended the Michigan Onsite Wastewater Conference in Lansing, Michigan. The Michigan Onsite Wastewater Conference is a 2-day educational conference that presented the latest onsite wastewater industry trends, regulatory changes, wastewater management options and technology. Emily and Spencer were excited to attend this conference, learn more about onsite wastewater, attend several seminars, and understand the basics of soil textural analysis in the soils training lab.

AR Employees Volunteer in the Community

AR engineering encourages employees to volunteer in the community and provides one day off annually for staff to volunteer with an organization of their choosing. On December 21, 2023, two of our project managers, Spencer and Whitney, braved the cold and spent the day framing a new home with Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity. The two worked with a team of ‘habitat regulars’ framing doors and walls, climbing ladders, swinging hammers, cutting boards, and shooting nails. By the end of the day the house was able to be enclosed with a tarp. Spencer said, “It was a good change of pace from the office, and it feels great to see so much progress in just a day.” Whitney thought “The Guys we worked with were a hoot, I’d do this again and I’m very thankful for the opportunity”.

Andrew Rossell also volunteered the following day, working to upgrade non-compliant restrooms at his parish. The bathroom conversion consisted of removing one existing stall and toilet from each of the men’s and women’s restrooms to create a new ADA compliant stall. It involved reworking the partitions and adding handrails for code compliance and was completed in time for the Christmas service. The team at AR Engineering is grateful for our talents and the opportunity to give back to the community.
