ASCE Scholarship Golf Outing

On August 9th, AR Engineering participated in the annual SW Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Golf Outing. It was a beautiful day for golf at The Lynx Golf Club in Otsego, Michigan. This annual event helps to support the Western Michigan University chapter of ASCE and this year the event raised $3,000 for the WMU civil engineering scholarship program and to support the WMU Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge Teams. AR Engineering’s Team of Sam Kindermann, Brian Chobot, Thom Carpenter and Luke Macleay recorded a respectable six under par for their round.

Southwest MiSTEM Growlers Game

A team from AR Engineering participated in Education Day at Homer Stryker Field, with Luke Macleay, Montserrat Tejeda MIrambeaux , Andrew Woloszyk and Spencer O’Dell arriving early to set-up for the day! Students from local school districts arrived eager to explore various hands-on exhibits and were excited about building sandcastles, which demonstrated mechanically stabilized earth (MSE). Students were encouraged to build a non-MSE sandcastle and an MSE sandcastle, and then drop the hammer on both to see the difference in strength provided by the fabric reinforcement.  The morning activities wrapped up at 11 AM with everyone invited to attend the Growler’s game.

AR Engineering extends its congratulations to Stiven Reci, Ethan Prescott, and John Perry, and Ali Hassan, Kiara Warburton, Diego Fuentes and Keeton Bigham-Tsai - they did a fantastic job on their presentation!

Luke participated in the Early/Middle College program, allowing him to graduate from KVCC one year after completing his senior year in high school. Luke will work full time for AR Engineering this summer and part-time in the fall when he will begin attending Western Michigan University to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering.

2024 Annual MSPS Conference

On February 13-16, 2024, Dustin Thornton attended the 2024 MSPS Annual Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan. There were a variety of available sessions, and all were very helpful and informative including a full day session regarding when to hold or reset a property corner, and one covering the new PA132 Certified Surveys Act. The students from Ferris State University presented their capstone projects and I was able to meet with them individually and discussed internship opportunities over dinner one evening.  It was time well spent and a great opportunity to learn and meet with other surveyors from around the state.
